UNC is facing a loaded non-conference schedule.
North Carolina will begin the 2024-2025 season in one of the toughest environments in the country. After that, the Tar Heels will compete in three separate “challenges” or “tournaments.” These games should give UNC a real test that can go a long way headed into ACC play.
On November 8th, the Tar Heels will head to Lawrence, Kansas, for a much anticipated non-conference game. It will be a rematch of the 2022 title game. Allen Fieldhouse is always one of the toughest places to play in college basketball, and the Jayhawks have crafted a monster of a roster through retention and the transfer portal.
A truly special event in college basketball, the Maui Invitational takes place over Thanksgiving week. This year, the teams involved are UNC, Auburn, Colorado, Dayton, Iowa State, Memphis, Michigan State, and defending national champ, UConn. A number of those teams will be ranked in the preseason top-25.
This is a four-team competition consisting of North Carolina, Florida, Michigan, and Oklahoma. The Gators are the only team that UNC hasn’t faced in the event. The Tar Heels defeated both Michigan and Oklahoma over the past two years and look to sweep the field this year with a win over Florida.
Another four-team event, the CBS Sports Classic has been annual since 2014. UNC has played all three other teams: Kentucky, Ohio State, and UCLA. Overall, North Carolina is 6-4 in the event. They will likely play UCLA, who they have a 2-0 record against in the event.
La Salle– The Explorers finished the 2023-2024 season with a 16-17 record. UNC will host them on December 14th.
This will give good insight on what to expect for the rest of the year.
