The incident occurred in the second period of Tuesday's game. With the score tied up 2-2 at roughly the halfway mark of the period, Cozens skated behind Nelson across the neutral zone before checking him from behind. A scrum ensued shortly after.

Cozens was assessed a minor penalty at the time and continued to play the rest of the game, ending the evening with three assists.
The Sabres ultimately defeated the Islanders 6-3.
